CG Kiss
“CG Kiss” quilt, 47″ x 47″, made in October 2021.
This is a quilt I designed from a photo of my son Chandler Grant and I, based on a picture of us at my cousin Sara’s wedding. I asked him to smooch my cheek and he surprisingly obliged! A sweet moment of affection I couldn’t help but make into art.
I cropped the image and created a simplified digital illustration.
I designed it into a foundation paper piecing pattern. Here are the sewing translation lines:
My fabric palette is exclusively Pure Solids by Art Gallery Fabrics, all from Sewfinity.com. I used ten fabrics: Sweet Macadamia, Blushing, Blossomed, Cinnamon, Miami Sunset, Terracotta Tile, White Linen, Creme de la Creme, Snow, and Caviar.
Here’s the design wall progression:
It’s not lost on me that I hate ironing clothes yet here I am pressing his “shirt”!
I pieced the quilt with Aurifil 50wt thread in White, and quilted it using Aurifil 40wt in Medium Grey. A simple grid is what this design needed.
A super-sweet surprise is the heart shape that happened to come out of the shadows and magically appear in the digital illustration. Do you see it?! It’s on the breast of his shirt.
