You’ve fallen in love with foundation paper piecing, now it’s time to learn how to design your own FPP patterns!
When Adobe Illustrator (AI) was released on the iPad, it absolutely streamlined my design process. Drawing sewing lines with the Apple Pencil is SO fun!
Come learn the basics of designing an FPP pattern: you’ll choose one of the provided illustrations, learn how to see some basic shapes in the context of sewing order, translate those shapes for sewing by drawing straight lines, then compile them into a pattern layout for printing. If you are experienced in FPP but are new to designing FPP or to AI software, this workshop is for you!
This is a hands-on iPad workshop and you’ll need to bring your own personal iPad, installed with the latest version of Adobe Illustrator, along with an Apple Pencil. You should also have strong tech literacy skills. This is a 3-hour no-sew in-person workshop at QuiltCon 2023 in Atlanta Georgia.
I can’t wait to meet you at my QuiltCon class! In the meantime, please do these things BEFORE CLASS:
1. Round up your class items: Apple Pencil and iPad (fully-charged) with the latest version of Adobe Illustrator iPad app installed, along with power cords. To purchase AI software subscription: Illustrator on iPad. To verify that your iPad/Apple Pencil will work with AI: System requirements.
2. Read this page: Illustrator on the iPad overview, verify you are able to log in with your Adobe ID, then watch these 5 tutorials to learn some basics: Illustrator on Your iPad. Your goal is to have your software running smoothly before class and to know some of the very basic functions in AI, since we won’t have a lot of time during class to troubleshoot installation or login issues. I want you to have the best in-class learning experience possible.
3. Sew some FPP projects in the weeks before class to make sure the technique is fresh in your mind. This will ensure you are in the FPP mindset!
